Yes, the website is up, events are being listed and we're counting down the days to the mass exodus to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress and the very first Heroes of the Mobile Fringe Festival.
So what's this all about then? Why a fringe festival? Fringe festivals have been around for more than 60 years and are havens for underground and emerging arts scenes The concept was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1947, eight performance groups appeared uninvited on the “fringes” of the exclusive Edinburgh International Festival. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has since grown into the largest arts festival in the world, and one of the most popular. So if that can work in the art’s sector, why not apply the concept to the mobile technology sector? There are tens of thousands of mobile executives in town for the week of Mobile World Congress, let alone the mobile community who already live in and around Barcelona. So why not show them a different side to our mobile industry and create some new ways to network, showcase our knowledge and cement existing and new relationships? And why not have some fun while we’re doing it? That is the inspiration for the Heroes of the Mobile Fringe Festival.
Get involved Of course we have events for you to attend, but maybe you'd like to get a bit more involved and support us to support the mobile community? You can add your event listing here (no charge). You can volunteer your time to assist at an event (you can never have too many helpers at events). Just add your name to the list here. Or perhaps you have exhibition space you could lend to the festival for an hour or more so we can do a pop-up event? We have lots of ideas which will help bring traffic to your stand and make it a destination, from book signings and busking to free expert sessions. Got space? Thenplease fill in this form. You can also sponsor us - either the whole festival or there are a couple of specific events that still need sponsorship - or become a media or community partner. Contact Helen Keegan to discuss.
We're very grateful for the support we've had so far in getting us off the ground. Our first sponsors, Pearson and LumuInvest, have been marvellous. And my trusty team have been amazing. A big up to you all.
Keep in touch With just twenty days until the festival starts, and twenty-one days until Congress starts, time is really ticking. We'll keep you updated with news on new events and happenings at the festival, we'll have a competition or two for free exhibition tickets coming up and hopefully some other fringe benefits. There'll be shout outs for speaker and demo opportunities and some tickets for hard to get into parties (well, we're still waiting for confirmation on that one, but fingers crossed). I guess we'll be sending you a few updates a week until it all kicks off, but only if we have something to tell you that we think will be of interest. The plan is to keep it brief and to the point as I'm quite sure your inboxes are going crazy.
Thank you for reading this far and taking an interest in our little festival. We hope you'll join the fun so spread the word and let's get this show on the road!
