Creative Animation Scheme

Northern Ireland Screen intends to use Lottery Funds, provided through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, to support a Creative Animation Scheme designed to develop Northern Ireland resident junior creators/animators. The process of developing character based animation projects is lengthy and expensive limiting the opportunity for junior level creators/animators to develop their ideas.

Through the Creative Animation scheme in collaboration with established animation production companies Northern Ireland Screen will support the production of at least two animation short films through funding awarded in the financial year 2015-16.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The scheme is open to established Northern Ireland based animation companies who have identified emerging talent that could be supported through this funding to develop and create a short character based animation (no longer than 10 minutes). The identified individual (creator/animator) should not be a principal of the company and should not currently be working in IP generation.

Priority will be given to projects that:
Could spin off into a series and are not a one off piece
Are generated by the creator/animator
Applicant companies should note:

If the project is based on existing work then the company needs to have the rights to develop it
The company needs to be willing to enter into a formal option agreement with the creator/animator

CRITERIA FOR SUPPORT
The applicant company should be a Northern Ireland based animation production company;
The creator/animator should be a Northern Ireland resident;
The creator/animator identified should not currently be working in IP generation and should not be a principal of the company;
The applicant company must be willing to engage in a formal option agreement with the creator/animator regarding the project;
The funding is to support the creator/animator to produce a short character based animation

HOW MUCH IS AVAILABLE?

Northern Ireland Screen’s cash contribution will be a maximum of £25,000. The production company is expected to contribute 25% of the overall budget. This can be an in kind contribution or third party finance. Northern Ireland Screen would encourage companies to avail of the animation UK tax relief.
