Ireland’s most creative student event: Live Finals on March 31
Eventbrite, the global ticketing and events marketplace, has challenged Irish students to come up with the next big event idea for its student contest “Ideas Wanted”. On the evening of Tuesday, March 31st, and in front of a live audience in the Hangar in Dublin, five finalists will pitch their event idea to a panel of industry experts, including DJ Nikki Hayes (Spin 1038), Daryl Cronin (On Tap events), Dave Fahy, (Career Zoo), Edwin Jebb (Propaganda) and Eileen Denham (Hangar).
The winning event idea will be awarded with €2000, free use of the Hangar venue in Dublin, free mentoring from events experts, a free show-reel and a paid work placement at an events company.
The evening will be presented by David Atkinson, a student of DCU, v-reporter for RTE’s The Voice Ireland and contributor for TV3. It’s a free event with complimentary food and drinks; free tickets are available onwww.ideaswanted.eventbrite.ie, doors open at 6pm.
The five finalists and their ideas are:
Andrew Degnan (Dublin Business School): Hangar's Garden – an indoor city garden to picnic in to chill out music with shisha pipes and live sax players.
Lewis Kenny (IADT Dun Laoghaire): Sketch – an urban arts event with Hip-Hop elements, spoken word, parkour and urban music.
Ciara Ní Éanacháin (UCD): A Bazaar featuring burlesque dancing, live rap, DJ, professional dancers with all spoken words in Irish.
Dylan Higgins (IADT, Dun Laoghaire): An interactive forum about digital culture & the arts in Dublin.
Grant Tierney (Trinity College Dublin): Bora Bora – a student club night that will also act as a recruitment drive for new DJs so that they can be part of the collective.
“Students have a proven track record of coming up with unique ideas for events, from Trinity's Jailbreak to Zorb football”, says Ann Lowney, Marketing Manager at Eventbrite Ireland. “We wanted to foster that creativity by challenging third level students in Ireland to come up with an event idea that people will pay to attend - we can't wait to help make the winner's idea a reality!”
