Following a strong performance last year, Tesco Mobile starts 2015 with over 300,000 customers, an increase of over 40% in one year. Growth has been driven by strong value tariffs, competitive handset price points and additional dedicated Tesco phone shop locations.
Tesco Mobile is a virtual network operator (MVNO) partnership between Tesco and Three, with 5.9% (estimated) market share; it is the largest and most successful Irish MVNO. In July, Tesco Mobile reached a milestone of 250,000 customers and this growth continued through the second half of 2014 with Tesco Mobile being the fastest growing mobile provider in Q3 2014.
Recent growth in Pay Monthly customers is driven by a number of new offers including €25 Sim only tariff (unlimited calls, texts and data) and a €50 tariff, which accounted for nearly 20% of Pay Monthly sales over Christmas. Current offers on this tariff include the Samsung Galaxy S5 which is available for free on the €50 Pay Monthly tariff until February 25th including unlimited minutes, texts and data.*
Commenting about the announcement, Tesco Mobile Managing Director Elaine Russell said “Passing 300,000 customers is a significant milestone for Tesco Mobile and we aim to continue to grow our customer base this year by responding to customer feedback and continuing to provide market leading value on our price plans and handsets, great data allowances and excellent customer service.”
Tesco Mobile doubled its retail footprint over the past year, now trading in 20 phone shop locations and an online store at tescomobile.ie that allows customers to top-up, upgrade and access customer care.
Tesco Mobile customers can also benefit from Tesco Clubcard points by registering their Clubcard to their Tesco Mobile account and starting to earn points every time they top-up a Pay As You Go phone or pay their Pay Monthly bill. Pay As You Go customers can earn double Clubcard points by topping up at one of Tesco Ireland’s 148 stores. See www.tescomobile.ie/whyTesco/
