Cathaoirleach welcomes Shannon jobs boost
Cllr. John Crowe, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council says today's (Monday, 19 January 2015) official opening by AMAX Information Technologies of its European manufacturing facility at Western Business Park in Shannon demonstrates that the wider Mid West region remains an attractive location for investment.
The AMAX Ireland location will serve as the European manufacturing facility for AMAX’s x86-based server and rack solutions as well as a logistics hub, joining AMAX’s headquarters in Fremont, California in the U.S., as well as its multiple China facilities to create a comprehensive global footprint. The facility will provide 100 jobs over the next five years in production, warehousing, finance and sales in the local community.
"This announcement represents one of the most significant jobs boosts since IDA Ireland assumed responsibility for attracting foreign direct investment into the Region. It also represents one of the first landmark industrial successes for Shannon Group PLC since Shannon's industrial zone was brought under its remit," Cllr. Crowe stated at today's official opening.
"We have come a long way from a situation five years ago when numerous negative jobs announcements and a lack of major investment raised fears of a decline in the local IT and manufacturing sectors. However, successive positive jobs announcements by a number of companies, including AMAX, have served as a shot in the arm to Shannon and the wider Mid West. I believe we can build on these announcements and that the key factors required to building on this success already exist," added the Cathaoirleach.
He continued: "We are fortunate to possess a pool of highly qualified and competent Third Level graduates in this region, while Shannon Airport offers quality connectivity to international markets while our motorway network ensures others parts of Ireland are easily within reach. Both IDA Ireland and Shannon Group have invested time, resources and expertise in mapping out the future growth and development of this industrial zone."
"Combined these factors have led to is a positive operating environment in Clare and this is encouraging companies to relocate here or expand their existing operations. Now that AMAX has committed itself to growing an operation here in Shannon, it is important the necessary agencies support the company in its endeavours," concluded Cllr. Crowe.
