BIGGEST MASHUP TO DATE CREATES 'GOOD VIBRATIONS' IN TECH COMMUNITY

The Friday Night Mashup – a quarterly event series that aims to connect, engage and inspire tech talent – took place in T13 on Friday evening (June 13) with over 400 people attending from across Northern Ireland's tech sector.

The event – headline sponsored by  Intel; Concentrix; Titanic Quarter; T13 – was also attended by figures from across the creative industries, including Ian McElhinney who plays Ser Barristan Selmy in Game of Thrones, Nathan Connolly from Snow Patrol and TV 'mentalist' David Meade. 

Organiser Aaron Taylor said: “The Mashup aims to bring in the very best people from outside the region to share their insights. We're already looking forward to our next Mashup after the summer and will be making an announcement shortly.”

Pitching companies for the evening were Little Deli, Pulsate Date, See Sense, and Bitnet – with Little Deli's Alex Milne coming away as overall winner in the pitch competition. Jyrobike also presented as the Friday Night Mashup 'Kickstarter of the Month'.

International speakers for the Friday Night Mashup included: 
  • Jon Vanhala – former Head of Digital & New Business at Universal Music and has worked with some of world’s top music talent, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nikki Minaj and Rihanna; 
  • Wilson Kriegel – previously executive at OMGPOP which sold to Zynga, March 2012 for $200 million and has been part of six start-ups (1 IPO; 3 sold; 2 operating); 
  • Matthew Gonzales – advisor to appbackr, a platform with more than 200 million users worldwide and has eight years of startup experience working in Silicon Valley; 
  • Andy McCartney – a former Technical Director at Microsoft, CTO and founder at Belfast-based theAppBuilder. 

The event – which was also sponsored by QUB SU, Propel, Invest NI, Cleaver Fulton Rankin, Hays, NISP and The Belfast Telegraph – concluded with a Q&A session with iconic local music figure Terri Hooley, whose life was recently celebrated in the film 'Good Vibrations', and Stuart Bailey from The Oh Yeah Centre.
