Cavan School Pioneers Blended Learning Approach to Project Maths

E-learning Collaboration Launched by TheMathsTutor.ie with St Mogue’s College, Bawnboy

St Mogue’s College has signed a licencing agreement with TheMathsTutor.ie to use their high-tech online learning system to support Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate students at the school.

Custom-built for the new Project Maths syllabus, TheMathsTutor.ie is the first comprehensive e-learning system for maths in Ireland.  St Mogue’s College is the first secondary school to harness the system as part of a blended learning approach, whereby classroom teaching is complemented by online learning and support.  This blended approach is considered the gold standard of education at third level, but has not been implemented at secondary level in Ireland until now.

Cormac Flynn, deputy principal of St Mogue’s College, said

We licenced TheMathsTutor.ie to enable us to provide blended learning for Project Maths at our school.  Our students use the online system to access maths learning and support at home, which complements the high quality classroom teaching and learning within our maths department. This approach facilitates self-directed learning by the students and builds up their maths confidence and ability. Licencing TheMathsTutor.ie has been a very positive step for our school, and our students, parents and teachers are very happy with the benefits of the blended approach.

Eamonn Toland, founder of TheMathsTutor.ie, said,
“We are delighted to work with St Mogue’s College to bring blended learning to their Project Maths students.  St Mogue’s College is a very progressive school, and has already achieved impressive results by using the latest technology in education.  They have now scored another ‘first’ by pioneering blended learning for Project Maths.”

Developed by a team of Irish mathematicians, teachers and IT specialists, TheMathsTutor.ie provides a full online learning environment, with video lessons, interactive exercises and additional online maths support, available 24/7.

TheMathsTutor.ie is the only online system covering all 5 strands of the new Project Maths syllabus, from Junior Cert Ordinary level through to Leaving Cert Higher level.  It is used by over 6’000 individual students throughout Ireland as a complementary learning resource, providing them with online support in a cost effective alternative to traditional grinds.

TheMathsTutor.ie is now rolling out system licencing to secondary schools across Ireland.

Toland concluded by saying,
“Blended learning is a very powerful and effective approach to education, and we are excited to work with St Mogue’s College to introduce it at second level for Project Maths.  Through online learning at home combined with classroom learning at school, students now have the best of both worlds, and are well prepared for exams, third level education, and the modern workplace.”
