Dublin to host world’s hottest health and tech startups during ‘HXL CheckUP’ and ‘The 2012 Healthies’

HealthXL, a multi-million Euro digital health technology programme investing in tech start-ups, today announced that Dublin will be the host city for two Health XL events designed to support the world’s hottest health and tech startups – ‘HXL CheckUP’, and ‘The 2012 Healthies’.  The events will see entrepreneurs including engineers, designers, scientists and doctors from across the globe descending on Dublin to identify the technology solutions to help solve today’s key health problems.

Individuals or groups with skills and ideas that could help develop IT solutions to health problems will be invited to form teams and launch startups at the first event, HXL CheckUP, which will be held over the weekend of 30 November.  Using the LEAN startup methodology, entrepreneurs will work alongside experienced mentors from the investment and corporate communities to explore if their digital health startup idea is viable.

The weekend culminates on Sunday evening with teams presenting in front of the investment community for critical feedback.  The Health XL panel of experts will include Dr. Johnny Walker - Founder & Chairman at Global Diagnostics Ltd, Jim Joyce – Founder and CEO of Point of Care, Eoghan Jennings - Co-founder and MD of Startupbootcamp in Dublin, Shay Garvey – Partner at Frontline Ventures, Ronan Kavanagh – Consultant Rheumatologist at Western Rheumatology,  and Joey Mason – Partner at Delta Partners.

HXL CheckUP is supported by StartupWeekend, and The Science Gallery.  Teams will present on ideas ranging from patient crowdsourcing, digital patient education including role playing games, technology to assist communication with healthcare workers and much more.

“Healthxl Checkup weekend is a fantastic forum for any startup entrepreneurs, budding innovators, seasoned mentors and inquisitive investors to get "down and dirty" together and focus on designing innovative solutions that will allow us to disrupt and transform the way we deliver healthcare in the immediate future!,” Dr. Johnny Walker, Founder & Chairman at Global Diagnostics Ltd.

The individual or group with the most viable idea will get the chance to attend the inaugural 2012 Healthies award ceremony, the second HealthXL event to be held in Dublin.

‘The 2012 Healthies’ is an exclusive event designed to recognize and celebrate the most compelling startups, executives and corporates in digital health innovations.  The event is co-hosted by Global Corporate Venturing, HealthXL, Health2.0 and Health Startups Europe.  The winning team from HealthXL CheckUP will join keynote speaker Ken Morse, the founder of six high tech companies including 3Com and AspenTech, and leading industry executives for the award ceremony and exclusive dinner on Tuesday 4th December 2012.
