Fastcom Telecom Invests €1million in its Network

Strong Growth in the Business Sector for Internet Service Provider

22nd March 2012:  Fastcom Telecom, Ireland’s largest regional internet service provider today announced it has invested €1million euro in a network upgrade following strong growth in the business sector.

The Sligo-founded company, which gained a significant foothold in the residential market in the North West since launching in 2004, has expanded capacity to fulfil increasing demand from business customers and to extend the reach of its services which include high-speed broadband, cloud connectivity via its FibreCloud range, hosted voice services, cloud software solutions and network design and build.

Fastcom Telecom, which is also one of the largest independently-owned telecoms providers in Ireland, reported strong performance for its business services division, experiencing a
30 per cent growth in the last year and acquiring a range of new customers from small and medium sized enterprises to multi-nationals and public sector organisations.  The company provides voice and data services to
over 3,000 business and residential customers in cities, towns and rural locations.

The expansion will initially lead to the creation of five new high skilled post graduate jobs in networking and software, sales and management at Fastcom Telecom’s headquarters in Sligo Town.

Managing Director of Fastcom Telecom, Ross Palmer, commented: “The stimulus for this investment is the growth we’ve experienced in the business market in the last year.  Our strategy to offer expert skills and superior service is clearly resonating as we’ve gained a number of new clients including the Health Service Executive (HSE), Donegal and Leitrim County Councils, ProTek Medical and LotusWorks.”

Additionally, despite increasing competition, our residential customer base has grown in the last year with an increase in new broadband services purchased and consumersresponding to well to our continued commitment to delivering value for money alongside the highest level of local service and support.”

The €1million upgrade, which includes investment in cloud technologies and fibre connectivity, provides both business and residential customers with additional assurance of Fastcom Telecom’s network coverage and availability.  It enables the company to broaden its service offerings to satisfy the increased demand for its services.
Fastcom Telecom currently employs 15 people in Ireland and the additional new jobs will support the growth phase.  The company recently moved to custom-designed new headquarters in the centre of Sligo Town.

Ross Palmer added: “We see great potential for growth in the business sector in particular as companies move away from legacy telecoms systems and embrace the new, faster, high performance IP network.  We are well connected to Ireland’s main data centres and have excellent reach nationally.”

In the tough economic climate, we will continue to work closely with clients to help streamline their IT costs and improve their entire communications infrastructure.     With our new range of FibreCloud products we can offer businesses higher bandwidth and lower costs and we are very excited to be driving this further forward in 2012 with the support of an expanded team.”
