Startup Academy Mentors

As some will know Silicon Ireland's Startup Academy, has been in motion for the last few months. We are pleased to announce that our Mentoring day will take place in Dublin on July 1st.

If you have not been contacted yet and you have requested information on how to become a mentor for our Startup Academy entrants, then please be aware that we will be contacting you next week.

For those that have asked what mentoring is about, please see below:-

We found this on Business link and we think this is a good explanation

' As a mentor, your role is to support, develop, stimulate and challenge your mentee, whether they're just starting up in business or are already established and seeking guidance.

When you become a Startup Academy business mentor, you can:

develop your coaching skills
widen your network of contacts
gain a new perspective on your own business
share your wealth of skills, experience and expertise with those who want knowledge and guidance

In order to become a business mentor, you need the right skills and experience. You should have:

the ability to listen and empathise
respect for other people's views
experience of the problems faced by small businesses
the ability to offer encouragement and sympathy
a supportive, hands-off approach that allows others to make their own decisions
a willingness to volunteer your time and skills
You should also have a good, broad understanding of business with experience in sales, marketing, public relations, planning, strategy, negotiation, operations and leadership with regard to small businesses.

Being a mentor is a rewarding and satisfying experience. You'll feel considerable satisfaction when your client reports back success. You'll also have the sense that you are 'putting something back' into the system.
